Data Sharing - What goes into Cloud

Hi all

Please can someone validate my understanding in relation to data shared when publishing to PowerBI.com

1.  Data sources are is SSAS direct query and Excel local file import. I have a gateway installed. I publish using my power bi pro license to my workspace on powerbi.com.

Am i correct in that the Excel data is pushed into the cloud because it is imported but SSAS data is held on prem? I appreciate that metadata is shared.

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous

Yes you are 100% correct, imported data (In your case Excel file) is hosted in the Power BI Service.

Whilst the SSAS model using DirectQuery has all the queries sent via the gateway to the SSAS Server.
