Dashboard Tile, Image cannot be loaded

Hello there,

I would like toload a PNG-File to a tile to show on beginning a new chapter of the report story.

I already did this for ~25 imgaes in png-format.

All of them are stored on a sharepoint site and can are visible on the tiles they're associated.

The microsoft troubleshooting-page does not list this issue / this issue is not mentioned

My question:

Did you face that phenomenon and how did you solve?

Is there a (hidden) max number of pictures to be displayed on a dashboard?

Thank you for input.

Thomas

Hi, @thomasreick

I didn't get any information about the limit on the number of tiles for the dashboard.

You may need to make sure security credentials aren't required to access the image file. For example, because OneDrive and SharePoint require authentication, images stored there can't be added to a dashboard this way.

I have the same problem. app.powerbi.com gives me the error message "Please enter a valid URL starting with https:// or http://" even though I entered the address correctly. Or she inserted the address of an already displayed image.
Can you help me?

Thanks

Iveta

Hello Questcz,

Please check PBI-Community-Thread https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Custom-Visuals-Development/Visual-to-display-Images-with-fast-rende...

@Ilbendin recommended Chris Webb's Blog on handling large images:

https://blog.crossjoin.co.uk/2019/05/19/storing-large-images-in-power-bi-datasets/

Works pretty well.

Hello thomasreick,

Thank you for the advice.

Unfortunately, this is not the solution to my problem. Unable to insert new image tile with https path to control panel. And it is also not possible to pin a graph from a published report.☹️

Unfortunately, I don't know where my mistake is.🤔

Good Morning Questcz/Iveta,

As far as I have understood correctly...

  • The pic(s) need to be available online (web/sharepoint)
    • Important(!): Reportuser should have reading rights on the pic-folder.
  • In PBI Desktop-Report you can include the base64-converted pics to a an Image-Visual  like Image Pro from the market (Image pro by Cloudscope)
    • do as explained in Chris Webb's Blog for both methods (Import in PQ, DAX in PBI)
    • Create an additional measure as described here for a single picture
      SinglePic= CALCULATE ( [DisplayImage]; LogoTable[NameOfPic] = "DesiredPic.png")
    • Make this Measure the Source of Image Pro-Visual
  • Do not manually import a picture to get it displayed, those cannot be pinned to a dashboard because there is no data-field connected.
  • Pin the Image Pro Visual from the published Report to the Dashboard

Please check this approach and give feedback.

thx

Have a nice weekend

Thomas

Hello Thomas,

I have dashboard with some tiles with pictures. This tiles function is as button with image - It can me transport to the other dashboard. In October I was add next this tile with the same URL address and no problem. When I tried add next tile in November (the same URL address and the same workflow) I have problem. And I don't know why. Few days ago, I noticed that I have problem tack graph from report to dahsboard, but table tack from report to dashboard I have no problem.

I can't explaint it me and I still look for solution. Your described solution is function, but on the other problem, not my. ☹️
But thanks for help me.🙂
