Custom column up-to-date in power bi service

Hi:

I'm new to Power Bi and I have some questions.

I'm able to use data gateway to connect my power bi server to mysql "live". All the datas are up-to-date.

In terms of the dataset I got from mysql, I want to add certain columns/create data modeling for that. I noticed that Power BI service does not allow that, I can perform these actions through power BI desktop.

But after I create the data model in power BI desktop(connecting to mysql as well), and click "publish", the dashboard on my power BI service is pretty much "fixed", it won't have up-to-date data since it's published by my power BI desktop.

Detal example: In my dataset, there are many sales data, I need to customize a fomular to calculate the "peek" sales within a day, I can achieve that in Power BI desktop, but keep bublishing it won't work. I need this "customize" field up-to-date as well.

Can you help me?

Thanks

Hi @franktby,

All the relationship I build in power Bi desktop can be publish to power Bi service right?

Yes, the relationship you create in Power BI Desktop will still work in Power BI Service. However, you cannot see the relationship view in Power BI Service.

Have you solved your problem?

Hi @franktby,

I'm not clear how do you connect your power bi server to mysql "live". As I know we only could add mysql data source in the Gateway and set schedule refresh.

For your sceanrio, you could get data from mysql database in Power BI Desktop and create the custom column, publish the report to Power BI Service.

Then you should add data source in on-premise data gateway and set schedule refresh with daily so that your data will be up-to-date.

This makes sense.

All the relationship I build in power Bi desktop can be publish to power Bi service right? I've already added gateway to keep the data live.

Thanks a lot!
