Creation Of Custom Visuals using Python Or TypeScript

Hi All,

Could any of you tell me which way would be the better way to create a custom visualization - Through "Python" or Through "TypeScript".

My Scenario: I am trying to enable the writeback functionality in Power BI using SAP HANA as a source using a custom Visualization.

Could you please help.

Thanks,

Nirmal

Hi @Anonymous ,

I would think that Python would be better since TypeScript isn't as common or as "used" in the Power BI community.  Theoretically, the TypeScript would work but I think you will get more help with Python.  I also think that Python is more robust in general.

I would appreciate Kudos if my response was helpful. I would also appreciate it if you would Mark this As a Solution if it solved the problem. Thanks!

Hi @collinq,

Will Python be able to carry out the write back functionality in Power BI having SAP HANA as a datasource/database.

Keeping in mind the restrictions of Python in Power BI, do you think, what I am trying to achieve in Power BI, Can It be done with Python.

Below link of restrictions of Python in Power BI:

Could you please be more specific regarding the use of Python in Power BI.

Thanks,

Nirmal

Hi, @Anonymous

I'm not familar with Creation Of Custom Visuals using Python Or TypeScript.

If you want to implement the write-back function, can powerapp visual meet your needs?

Hi @v-easonf-msft ,

With PowerApps, SAP HANA cannot be used as a DataSource for writeback functionality and thereby for Planning capabilities.

I have explored all the available options (that I can think of), Power On AddOn - Featured Custom Visualizations, where a tabular visualization is doing the write back for SAP HANA.

I have also checked with Power On guys, and they are not disclosing what they used to create custom visuals.

Also, I am seeing one webinar of Python in Power BI - where they are clearly saying that Python visual is a separate visual with a block - where we can write our own python scripts and can make a visual out of the data which we have loaded from the data source.

It is also said that the visual created from Python will not be that interactive as of HTML+TypeScript.

So, for now, I can conclude that Python is a flower which is still growing in Power BI garden, and it require some more time to leverage all its magic to the Power BI tool.

Thanks for your time.
