Create Excel pivot table from PBI dataset without Pro License

Hi,

Our company has a Premium subscription and we want to endorse the feature to create a pivot table in Excel from PowerBI dataset.

This feature is described in this article.

When we decided to chose the Premium subscription, we were relying on the possibility to connect to datasets via Excel. This is still possible using the connector for analysis services. However, this is inconvenient for non-technical users.

We're in a predicament, since we're about to roll out PowerBI

- waiting for this feature to become part of the premium subscription (if ever to happen) and not only being available to Pro Users

- instructing users to connect the old way to use pivot tables connecting to PowerBI datasets, which requires us creating templates that might be around for 5-10 years in the company

One big advantage of the new connector is speed, since it would be a pitty if we chose the second option now and this would become part of premium soon.

Do you know how Microsoft will proceed with this feature?

Hi @Anonymous ,

According to my understanding, you hope that in the future power bi will be able to use creating Excel pivot table from PBI dataset without a Pro license ,just a Premium license, right?

To my knowledge,With Power BI Pro, users are licensed individually and participate fully in the use of Power BI. And with Power BI Premium, you are licensing capacity for your content rather than licensing all users of that content.

For now, the creators of content in Premium still need their own Pro licenses.

Eyelyn Qin
