Copied report in another workspace won't apply change

I have two workspaces (let's say X space and Y space).

I uploaded the report to the X space and copied the report to Y space.

Then visualizations/charts change were made to the report, and the report was uploaded to the X space again.

I found out that the copied report in the Y space doesn't get applied to the visualization change, only the report in the X space get changed.

I'm wondering is there any setting I was missing? or it is how it is?
If so, how do I apply change to the copied report in the Y space when I'm uploading new version of the report to the X space?

I don't want to keep deleting the copied report in the Y space and keep copying the report from X space to Y space because I want to retain the report link as well as retrieve the report usage metric. If deleting the report, then I won't be getting the correct report usage metrics.

*All the visualization/chart changes are made to the same tab in the report.

Thank you for your help!

hi @Anonymous - Unfortunately is no out of the box straightforward setting to publish to multiple workspaces and manage without having to publish/copy to multiple workspaces once you have made changes.

Can you please share the business scenario as to why you have the same report published across different workspaces?

Also you can explore the below links for publishing of reports using the Power BI REST API

Hi @Anonymous ,

After my testing, what you describe does exist. This may be a lack of feature. You can create your ideas here. Or use the rest API as an alternative.

hi @Anonymous - When you copy a report to a new workspace they are 2 independant reports - and making report level changes will not reflect in the copied report (workspace X). However they do share the same dataset - so when you publish the report + dataset again you will get a prompt asking you to confirm and that the dataset will affect 2 reports (in workspace X & Y).

Even if you go through the app route and create an app - when you publish the report you will need to update the app as well for your changes to reflect.

Thank you all for your answers!

I did make a research on the apps, and seems like I'll still have to create multiple workspace so to publish the apps.

And have to update each app to reflect the changes.

What would be the best preactice of this? To apply changes to multiple reports at once?

Upload the same report to every workspace is an option, but I don't really want to go for this, because it's hard to manage, and I'll have to remember to upload to every workspace needed, especially we have many workspaces.
If fail to upload to either one, then there will be different versions of the same report and users will question us. Then it takes time to fix it, too.
This is the current way we're doing right now, and we're seeking better practice to manage multiple same/different reports.

Thank you for your help!

Thank you all so much for helping me!

We have different workspaces that contain different audience, and audience has access to all the reports in that workspace.
Thus sometimes we publish same report to different workspaces, or only publish specific report to specific workspace.

I think REST API is what I need to publish same report to multiple workspace.

Thank you all!!

@Anonymous

When you copy a report from one workspace to another, they are now 2 independent reports. They do not share the same dataset. They do not reflect each other. Therefore, whenever you make a change in the report, you can only publish the report twice, once to Workspace X, and then Workspace Y.
