I was getting an error when trying to connect to our Dynamics CRM Online 2016 via the "Sales Manager" content pack. Instructions here say to enter the service URL of your Dynamics CRM account, i.e. https://company.crm.dynamics.com. I did that.
"Failed to update data source credentials".
Not a very helpfu error message.
Seemed like Power BI was blindly appending "/api/data/v8.0/" to the URL entered in the box.
Anyways, it took me way too long to figure out that the URL I needed to enter was https://company.api.crm.dynamics.com, so that the above text could be appended to the URL (completed as https://company.api.crm.dynamics.com/api/data/v8.0/), and my oData found.
It worked, even though my CRM's developer tools say that the service root URL is at https://company.api.crm.dynamics.com/api/data/v8.1/ (8.1, not 8.0)
I'm not sure if this issue is unique to me or not, but it seems like this whole process could/should have been a lot smoother and may need an update. I am also sharing this for the benefit of others.

Thank you for your reply.
I tried it again this morning, and came to the realization that I was having issues because I failed to place the "https://" before company.crm.dynamics.com.
When I entered company.api.crm.dynamics.com, I must have remembered the "https://".
Definitely my fault, but I can see how others might have similar problems.
@Anonymous
I just tired on my side but I can connect successfully with https://company.crm.dynamics.com. The URL will be appended automatically as https://company.crm.dynamics.com/api/data/v8.0/.
Then I tried with https://company.api.crm.dynamics.com, it still can be used to connect.
It seems that both links work on my side. You can use the second URL as alternative and report again if you cannot connect with both URLs.
Best Regards,
Herbert
