Concerns regarding usage of an ODBC connector to get SAP HANA cloud data

Hi there, I need your opinion 🙂

I have to do reporting on some data available in a SAP HANA cloud database in my PBI Desktop, and then publish the report to the PBI service.

Two options to get the data are available, the first through Hana Connector and the second via ODBC connector. ( Hana client already installed )

The question/concerns I'm having is as follow :

We went with the ODBC connector, and now a gateway needs to be set on both the Hana platform and the PBI Service, so the data refresh can be enabled ( refresh should occurs 3 times per year ). This set up looks like much efforts..

According to you, What are the risks/cons of choosing this solution ( "ODBC connector with gateway" - I see a lot of maintenance that needs to be done.. ) vs the Hana Connector ?

Looking forward to read you

Hi  @Vrykolakas ,

If the database used does not have a specific connector in power bi, we would recommend using ODBC, and if the database used has a specific connector in power bi, it is recommended to use a specific connector, because it is created specifically for the database.

This is about some support functions of SAP HANA Database:
