Column security

Hello,

I have a dataset in which one field or column of data has sensitive information that should be restricted to a subset of users when creating reports from the dataset.  Is there a way to restrict access to a specific field/column based on role or some other setting?

Hi @mgaynor ,

You can use the Object Level Security in Power BI. Create a new role in power desktop, and set the column you don't want to show in the role to none in Tabular Editor. Here is a good video for your reference: https://bielite.com/blog/object-level-security-power-bi/

Thanks for the info.  It's great to see that its possible but frustrating that it's a third party application and not embedded in the Desktop app.

@mgaynor Yes. if you have Premium, you can use Object Level Security (OLS): Analysis Services tabular model object-level security | Microsoft Docs

Otherwise, you can do something like the following: Column Level Security - Microsoft Power BI Community
