Change the Workspace Group Privacy from Public to Private

Hi guys,

I have read the Frequently Asked Questions and all... and I know that this is not possible, but I have a workspace which is also an app, that contains some confidential data. I know that the app is safe because I need to give access to people to view it. But the workspace is public and it concerns me to see it like that. I already sent the app link to several members of my organization and I don't want to confuse them with another link (they just got used to this one), by creating a new workspace, set it to private and so on. Is there someone I can talk to, to change it, as I don't have the option to do it myself. And I read why:

---------------------------------

You have a few options to set. If you choose Public, anyone in your organization can see what’s in the workspace. Private means only members of the workspace can see its contents.

Set Private or Public

You can't change the Public/Private setting after you've created the group.

------------------------------------

Please let me know what is the best practice in this situation,

Thanks a lot,

Ovidiu

Hi @OvidiuNeacsu ,

Based on my research, I am afraid you could not find the way to change the Workspace Group Privacy from Public to Private and if you want to make your data more secuity, I suggest you use RLS function:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/desktop-rls

Only the users you have added could see the content and other users have not access to view the data.

@OvidiuNeacsu

I know this old, but just stumbled on the post today. I had solved this by following these steps and thought it may be useful for anyone still looking at this thread.

  1. Login to the PBI Workspace and click on More Options (...)
  2. Click Members
  3. A new page will open up with the URL https(separator)(outlook(dot)office365(dot)com/people/group/
  4. This page will list the details of the group including members and email id
  5. Click on the More Options (...) below the group name
  6. Under Security > Privacy, set the required privacy level - whether Public or Private
  7. Save and close this window
  8. Refresh the PBI Workspace window and you will see the permissions changed

Note that I was a space admin when making this change.

Cheers,

Ganesh
