Cannot upgrade or uninstall on-premise enterprise PBI gateway

Hi,

The Enterprise On-Premise PBI Gateway is installed on a Azure VM.

It's been running fine for months until Saturday 21th, when overnight scheduled refreshes started failing. After initial data source connection checks and restarting the gateway, reasearch suggested upgrading the gateway, as that had fixed a similar issue for some.

Upon logging into the Configurator it suggest upgrading. After download the installer is run, but the progress bar only moves to around 60% and then just stops. CPU usage remains at zero for the installer and nothing changes. We waited 30 minutes before cancelling and that appeared to be cancelling but also did not progress, such that the processes had to be killed.

This was repeated, to the same result.

We tried uninstalling, this produced the same affect.

The same downloaded November installer on our Pre-Production VM installs without a problem, within a few minutes.

We re-pointed the reports to use the Pre-Prod gateway, freshly installed, and it all works fine.

The current version running is 3000.54.8. The Pre-Production working version is 3000.66.4.

The Production on-site premise gateway cannot currently be upgraded or uninstalled.

The last entry for the installer in Event Viewer before it hangs is ;

Beginning a Windows Installer transaction: C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{EF7BCFA5-4DD8-44D2-8DF1-7256F8C4D46A}v15.66.4\DataMovement.GatewayComponents.msi. Client Process Id: 6648.

Regards,

Nick

Hi @Nick_D

Have you restarted the Gateway Server?

I had a similar issue and after restarting it all started working.

Hi GilbertQ,

We have restarted the Service numerous times.
We have also restarted the server.

The Uninstall / Upgrade behaviour stays the same and stops at the same place.

Cheers,

Nick
