Cannot View Visuals in Power BI Service w/ Direct Query

I'm connecting w/ a direct query - a very simple select of a few fields just to test the feature out. The visual is available in desktop. After I publish, it's giving the below error:

Something's wrong with one or more fields: [various fields here]

If I change the source from direct query to import back to direct query, it works, but the visual doesn't seem to act like a direct query i.e. it doesn't update when the report is refreshed or interacted with. It only updates after the data is refreshed. The only luck I've been having w/ direct query refreshing and not staying static is w/ a query like (select sysdate from dual).

I personally don't have a gateway set up, but a coworker does. I'm the one editing and publishing the report.

@cec4461  - You will need to set up the dataset to use a gateway.
