Can't refresh data from a dataset (The gateway operation has been cancelled explicitly by...)

Hi,

today I've experienced an issue with my gateway.

I've always had 2 dataset pointing to 2 different database in the same server.

I have set a gateway and 2 data source. I had then set some scheduled refreshes and i've never had any problem, but today a dataset can't get updated in Power BI (while the other can) (The gateway operation has been cancelled explicitly by the user or from a timeout).

I tried downloading the .pbix and update it manually, and it worked. I also tried to set again the gateway.

I read about the scheduled maintenance of these days, but I'm not 100% sure that it should affect my datasets and data sources in this way.

Thanks for any help you may give me.

Thanks, I opened a ticket, I really can't understand what's not working.

UPDATE:

I had to spend all yesterday morning with the assistance, install the Fiddler software, and maybe tomorrow it should be fixed.

And it was a "known issue" (caused by (from what I understood) an underflow of the data, that is processed correctly by Power BI Desktop but not the service).

I am quite disappointed that such a problem could arise and I hope they'll fix it in the code source and not via query.

Hi @MaxItaly,

Besides what @Seth_C_Bauer posted, how long hasn't the dataset refresh? The scheduled refresh on your dataset is paused after two months of inactivity. Please review the note part in official blog.

Note: After two months of inactivity, scheduled refresh on your dataset is paused. A dataset is considered inactive when no user has visited any dashboard or report built on the dataset. At that time, the dataset owner is sent an email indicating the scheduled refresh is paused, and the refresh schedule for the dataset is displayed as disabled. To resume scheduled refresh, simply revisit any dashboard or report built on the dataset.

Best Regards,
Angelia

@MaxItaly Have you updated the gateway recently?

No, last time I updated it was like...1 month ago, when you had to update it to keep it working.

After that, the two datasets kept refreshing with no problems until now.

The dataset has not been disabled. I also viewed it recently, so that shouldn't be the problem.

Now I am getting a strange new error:

Message: The command has been canceled. Table: "Tablename".

URI cluster: WABI-EUROPE-NORTH-B-redirect.analysis.windows.net

Actiity ID ...

etc.

Hi @MaxItaly,

Other customer also encounter the similar issue, and it has been reported internally, we will post the update if there is new information. Thanks for understanding.

Best Regards,
Angelia

So it is an internal problem?
I have to do nothing, just wait?

Because I'm really not understanding what's the problem, and I'd prefer not to waste any more time if I just have to wait for an internal problem to resolve.

The refresh works from the .pbix file, so I really guess it's not depending on me.

EDIT:

The error changed once more, and now it is again "The gateway operation has been cancelled explicitly by...".

Hi @MaxItaly,

Are you a pro use? After I check the similar issue in details, there maybe something different, you'd better create a support ticket on the right bottom of this page, and use the fiddler tool to grab all your log, and share them. After opening ticket, they will have power to check your own data and find detailed reasons.

Best Regards,
Angelia
