I can't seem to manually update my dataset on the online service. The dataset came from a local .pbix file, however the data source of that file is an Azure blob database.
If I go to the Dataset settings, it correctly identifies the AzureBlob in the Data source credentials section, and scheduled refreshes over night work fine. If I try to refresh it manually though I get a local gateway error:
Couldn't refresh because your Personal Gateway is offline.
Make sure your Personal Gateway is up and running. Make sure the computer where the gateway is installed is turned on and the gateway is running.
Also, make sure the credentials provided in the Data Source Credentials section in the Datasets
settings page are up to date.
From my understanding setting up a Personal Gateway is only required if you want to access local data sources, and since the data source here is an Azure database it shouldn't be needed (even if the model file is a pbix), is this correct? The fact that scheduled refreshes work seem to confirm this.
Is there an issue with manual refresh, or am I making false assumptions?
Sounds like some kind of issue with manual refresh because I agree with you that the way it *should* work is that you should not need a gateway of any kind for Azure-based data.
Have you already configured your Enterprise Gateway at powerbi.com with the exact same settings you were using previously in your Personal Gateway? Are you getting a successful test connection with Enterprise Gateway? I've had issues with the report at powerbi.com recognizing the Enterprise Gateway unless the connection information is exactely the same as in the report.
