Can't get Apps for Dynamics 365 For Financials...

Hi,

I've opened PowerBI on-line, logged in and tried to 'get data' for the following Apps from 'App Source | Apps for Power BI'...
'Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Financials'
'Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Financials - Customer List'
'Microsost Dynamics 365 for Financials - Vendor List'
'Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Financials - Sales'
...of these four only the 'Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Financials' get data process worked.  The other three all gave similar errors, for example...

"We couldn't import data from Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Financials - Sales

There was an error when processing the data in the dataset.
Please try again later or contact support. If you contact support, please provide these details... "

Technical details:
Data source errorThe 'Entry_No' column does not exist in the rowset.

The result is that the dataset does not come through ('Failed to publish dataset'), although the skeletons of the Dashboards and Reports seem to upload successfully.  Dataset is a standard uk Cronus Dynamics for Financials and Operations 365 database - GB Dynamics NAV 10.0 (17781), ( https://gcctest04.financials.dynamics.com:7048/MS/OData/Company ).

This is pretty much my first attempt with PowerBI so I expect it is something daft I'm doing.

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Hi @MalcolmAtGCC,

Here is a quick walk-through on deploying the Dynamics 365 for Financials Power BI content pack.  This walk through assumes that you are already able to log into your own Power BI environment.

First you will need to make sure you have your user setup with a ‘Web Service Access Key’ in Dynamics 365 for Financials.

  1. Log into your Dynamics 365 for Financials site.
  2. Search for the ‘Users’ window and open it.
  3. Open the ‘User Card’ of the user who you would like to have access to the Power BI reports.
  4. Check to see if they already have a ‘Web Service Access Key’ – If they do not, use the ‘Change Web Service Key’ option at the top of the window.
  5. Set an expiration date or set it to never expire and create your key.
  6. The ‘User Name’ and ‘Web Service Access Key’ on this ‘User Card’ window will be your User Name and Password that you use in Power BI later.  Keep this window open or save each for use in the following steps below.

You can now move on to Power BI.

Based on my research, it seems to be that there are some additional steps need to be done to deploy the Dynamics 365 for Financials Power BI content pack. For more details, you can refer to the following articles. Smiley Happy

Many thanks. I ran through the process again this afternoon and this time it worked.

I followed the steps you suggested and then the steps in this link https://community.dynamics.com/business/b/dynamics365financialssupport/archive/2016/11/18/how-to-dep... and everything worked smoothly.

The only question is why it didn't work last time, because I don't think I did anything different today from previously!  Anyway, it is fixed and working now.

Kind regards,

Malcolm
