Bookmark navigation in the service does not work

Bookmark navigation in the service does not work anymore if a URL is entered directly to the URL address field of a browser.
On 2/26/2020 something got broken. Till then everything worked as it should.

To reproduce the issue, do the following.

1. Publish the report I provided.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/c57refjz3o9dk9w/BookmarkNavigation.pbix?dl=0

2. Open a report in Power BI service.
3. Click on "Bookmark1" button visual of the report.
4. You'll be navigated to the corresponding bookmark. The URL address in the URL box will change. In my case the URL will be:
https://app.powerbi.com/groups/xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx/reports/xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-...

5. Click on the URL address field and copy the displayed URL.
6. Create a new tab in your browser and paste previously copied link to the URL address field of the newly created tab. Press Enter to follow the link.
7. When the navigation is complete, we can witness that the URL address in the URL box changed its value. It became shorter. In my case the URL shown in the URL box will be:
https://app.powerbi.com/groups/xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx/reports/xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-...

Can someone confirm the issues?

Hi @Sergiy - I am having a similar issue. I have links within a Power BI App that are pointed to reports with specific bookmarks. A user came to me yesterday saying that the links weren't working correctly. After investigating, the bookmark GUID portion of the URL would drop and simply display the report in the default state.

I tried updating the app, adding a new link to the app, and accessing the URL from a new browser, but none of these corrective actions worked.

Hi @v-easonf-msft  - do you have an approximate fix time for this issue? My tenant is located in West US (California).

Thank you for your help to resolving this issue quickly.

Hi, @curhey

I don’t have much information, I only know that the problem was resolved for  APAC / EUR.
In other regions  ,it still need a few days to wait this fix deployed.

Thanks @v-easonf-msft for your help. I will wait for the links to work correctly, hopefully in the next couple of days.

I cannot confirm how it worked previously but I can confirm that you cannot navigate directly to a bookmark URL as you describe. It appears that it drops the ?bookmarkGuid= portion of the URL.

DAX is easy, CALCULATE makes DAX hard...

I've used the technique of navigating directly to a bookmark URL a lot. Now this functionality is abandoned. What will be dropped next? It's very disappointing 😞

All hope is not lost. I would report this as an issue. You could check the Issues forum here:

And if it is not there, then you could post it.

Hi , @Sergiy

This issue has been fixed in the internal environment. But updating to PROD still takes a while.

Can you tell me  your tenant location? So that I can get an approximate fix date.

Yes, the problem does happen again.

I'm sorry, the currently known information is that it may not be fixed until April 20 at the earliest.

In April the issue wasn't fixed. I waited till the next Power BI release was rolled out. Today is May, 7. Unfortunately, the issue hasn't been fixed yet.

We are terribly suffering from this nuisance. It's been nearly 6 weeks that we can't use bookmarks to the full.

Could you please shed light on what is going on? Will this bug ever be fixed?

Hi, @Sergiy

Sorry, It has not been deployed yet and the plan has been delayed.
