Auomatic Refresh reports successful refresh, but doesn't really refresh the data

I have a report that's scheduled for automatic refresh on a daily basis.

Every day, it is reported a successful refresh, but this isn't true! It does not update.

When I clik on manual refresh in Service, it updates.

My primary data source is in a cloud. The authentification method used when creating it in Desktop is Basic. However, when I look at authentification method in Service Settings for the report, it portrays Windows Authentification as the standard authentification method. When I switch authentification to Basic, it automatically switches back to windows.

What do I do? I'va had this problem for many days now! Drives me nuts.

Hi @vehau1

If the data source in the report is your local file, not the file in the SharePoint online, though you set the schedule refresh for the dataset, it retrieves data from local Excel instead of SharePoint Excel file.  If you want to set the schedule refresh to retrieve data from SharePoint Excel, I suggest you to refer to below steps:

1.Upload your excel file to the SharePoint online

2.Create a report in Power BI desktop by getting this file in SharePoint online. Reference: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/desktop-use-onedrive-business-links

3.Publish the report to the service and you can set the schedule refresh. Reference: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/refresh-csv-file-onedrive#what-are-the-advantages

Hi @vehau1

Do you use DirectQuery and set up a refresher schedule? If so,your dataset is located in a cloud platform, you will not need a gateway. For further, please refer to this article.

Hi there. I don't use direct query. I use import.

So here is my setup:

I created a report through power BI desktop. The data in the dataset are from an organizational Azure Cloud Database and an organizational Sharepoint site.

When uploaded to Power Bi Service, I activate automatic refresh on a daily rate.

Every day, the Service reports a successful refresh. But the refresh is clearly not successful, because the dataset is not updated.

I am 100 % positive that the data source is updated. So what is the issue here?

I have just one more question,

As I said I have two datasources, Azure SQL and Sharepoint.

my Sharepoint connection is that of a Sharepoint folder (not Sharepoint list from online reources). Sharepoint Folder connector lies under "File" folder in Get Data menu. I need to use this connection because I retrieve an Excel Workbook from this Folder.

Does this prevent me from getting updated data? Even when automatic refresh reports successful refresh?

Hi again,

I am sorry to say that the refresh didn't work over the weekend. It refreshed "successfully" three times, but not updating any data.

I Have now 4 sources:

- 3 web sources (Sharepoint Group Excel workbooks) (OAuth2 authorization is specificed in Desktop)

- 1 Azure SQL DB source (Basic authorization (uname+pwd) )

- Update does not seem to work when I am logged off the account that's set up for OAuth2 authorization.

- When I click on Edit Data source credentials for these sources, Anonymous always pops up as the default choice.

Thanks! Using web connector by doing your point no 2, instead of using a sharepoint folder connector, did the trick!
