Assigning a Pro license to an external user

Hi,

I use Power BI Premium, A SKU.

I would like to assign a Power BI Pro license to an external user. Is it possible?

I am asking this question, as initially, I wanted to share a report via an app, that has dedicated capacity. However, I could not do it, because A SKU does not support such a way of sharing data. Is it the case with assigning licenses too?

Thank you.

Hi there

Yes you can assign a guest user a Power BI Pro license in YOUR Azure Active Directory tenant.

With regards to the A SKU, my understanding is that it can be used when embedding Power BI into an application.

If an external user has got a power BI pro license they could then access the report without having to have the dataset in Power BI Premium A SKU

Glad that I've found the answer here, meaning that it is impossible to assign licenses using A SKU:

@V-lianl-msft  For some reason despite the fact the solution has been accepted, I have never done it, as the answer has not still been provided.

Hi @V-lianl-msft  ,

Thank you for your email.

However, I think the information that you provided does not address my question in full. The question itself is whether it is possible to assign the licenses for external users using Power BI Premium A SKU? I would like to stress that the aspect of A SKU is important to me in this situation.

Hi there A SKU is designed for embedding of Power BI.

You can assign an external user a Power BI Pro license once they are a guest in your Azure Active Directory
