Appending tables

Currently I am I have sales data for the past 24 months in seperate files becuase of there size and wanting to roll them off on a 24 month calender.  I append those files in a desktop query so that they work as one table and then build the reports in Desktop and upload to Power BI service.  But everytime I want to refresh the report I need to refresh the desktop file and then schedule the service to refresh the data set and desktop file.  I want to automate the updating of the data set and report.  So If I use the desktop file to only append the data into one table and then build the reports in service will that allow me to just then update the data set and schedule an update in the service?  Will the reports update?

Thank you,

Joseph

If your files are local, then you will need to use a gateway such as the Personal Gateway or Enterprise Gateway. Once you install one of these and it authenticates to the Service, the Service can refresh your queries automagically.

Ok, but if i build the report in desktop will i not also need to update the desktop file with the new data before the service will?

And if I build the report in the service then all I have to do is schedule the data file to refresh, Correct?
