Any other alternatives for Power BI Apps Users to export the visual data to Excel or CSV?

Hi,

1) Is there any other way that an Admin or Dataset Owner can give permissions through Apps to end users to export the visual data (Table / Matrix, or any visual) to Excel or CSV, where Apps having the READ ONLY permissions to the end users?

If not, How should an Admin or Dataset Owner provide the end user the permission to export to excel or CSV from Apps?

- In my use case, the end users should not have the edit rights to reports nor they can have build permissions.

Please help me. Thanks in Advance!

Hi @BBIUser

You can click on the Report Settings in your report and configure how the data can or cannot be exported.

Below is a screenshot of where you can configure the settings.

Hi @BBIUser

As tested, when i download an Power BI App from my organization,

i have only read permission to this App,

i can export data from the visuals on the reports.

Please check if your Admin or report builder give the "export data" permission.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/visuals/power-bi-visualization-export-data#limitations-and...

For Admin, under Admin protal->Ternat setting, trun on "export data"

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-admin-portal#tenant-settings

For a report which publishing from Power BI Desktop, check the "export data" option under File > Options and Settings > Options-> CURRENT FILE, select Report settings.

Rollback to export to excel without build permissions on dataset please. It was a mistake. We forgive you.

Thanks for the reply @GilbertQ and @v-juanli-msft

Gilbert: I had that option checked in the Report Settings.

Maggie: I suppose the problem was "export data" permission which gives them permission to build reports, and dashboards from that dataset and also export option. I dont see any problem by selecting this option for my use case.

But, is there any consideration to seprate the "export data" (to Excel or CSV) from within "build permissions" for READ ONLY Apps? Has anyone submitted idea on this type of request?

Appreciate it!

Hi there, I am not aware of any idea for this request. Possibly create one, it is a valid idea
