Analyze in Excel Not working (0365)

I have tried installing Analyze in Excel both 32 bit and 64 bit and it does not install in excel.

I do not see the Power BI Ribbon in excel.

I have looked at Com Add Ins and it ins't listed.

I have also tried installing PBIPublisher... and tried both the 64 and 32 bit.

None of the above works!!!!

I would have thought it should be pretty easy and straight forward to install Analyze in excel. e.g. go to Power BI Web Service, Click the Arrow, Select Analyse in Excel, download the software and it should work... but it doesn't.

I have O365 32 bit installed on my laptop.

Any suggestions?

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

Thanks I had checked all that.

My PC had Windows 10, I had Excel O365 32 Bit and Power BI Pro and no issues with group polocies.

So all the listed ingredients were there.

I logged a ticket with Microsoft Support and they helped me out.

The fix was to re-install Office 365, which by default re-installed office as 64 bit.

Then I ran the Analyze in Excel Updates (downloaded from Power BI Web Service Page)

And then it all worked.

Thanks Microsoft Support!!!

Hi @GMRevenite ,

You could refer to this article. You can check the following requirements:

  • Analyze in Excel is supported for Microsoft Excel 2010 SP1 and later.

  • Excel PivotTables do not support drag-and-drop aggregation of numeric fields. Your dataset in Power BI must have pre-defined measures.

  • Some organizations may have Group Policy rules that prevent installing the required Analyze in Excel updates to Excel. If you’re unable to install the updates, check with your administrator.

  • Analyze in Excel requires that the dataset be in Power BI Premium or that the user have a Power BI Pro license. To learn more about the differences in functionality between license types, take a look at Power BI features by license type.

  • Users can connect to datasets through Analyze in Excel if they have read permission on the underlying dataset. A user could have this in several ways, such as being a member of the workspace containing the dataset, having a report or dashboard shared to them that uses the dataset, or having permission to an app that contains the dataset.

  • The Analyze in Excel is a Power BI service feature, and is not available in Power BI Report Server or Power BI Embedded.

  • Analyze in Excel is only supported on machines running Microsoft Windows.
