Allow Grouping for Client

Hello Experts,

This may be a simple yes no question for the forum, but I am interested to understand if Micosoft gives users the ability to create a data grouping from PBI Service. The request from business is to allow them to create custom groups in the front end and then reflect their group in the data. There are an arbitrary number of groups, and it's impossible to determine all of the number of groups that the clients would want to create. At this point in our development, literally any solution will suffice. Thank you all!

To better visualize this request, please view this example:

Data Before Group:

SpecialtyDollars

Hospital

100
NP200
PA300
Outpatient400

Data After Group:

SpecialtyDollars

Hospital

100
NP/PA Group500
Outpatient400

Hi @dakotaperryman,

Grouping/Binning is indeed a feature, but only available in Power BI Desktop. You can't add bins in the service.

Hi @dakotaperryman ,

End user who has edit permisson can edit the report. But it is not supported to create new groups for the underlying data.

You could submit this as an idea.

Thanks Nick for your input. Is there any workaround that you could think of? Even if it was a totally seperate application? Maybe a PowerApp that allows them to create their bins, and stores them in our DB which will in turn create them in the dataset? Sounds complex, but maybe doable?
