Alerts on Read-Only Report Deployed as App

We have a number of Power BI reports which we have made available to the regional offices across the company.  The report contains data for the whole company, but the regional offices are primarily only interested in the data that relates to their office, which they can filter in the report. We do not want the users to be able to save any changes which will affect other users, so have deployed the reports as an app, with the setting "members can only view Power BI content".  We would like the users to be able to create alerts for themselves, but these can only be created from a dashboard, and as the read-only visualisations cannot be pinned to a dashboard, they have no way of doing this on self-service basis.

We didn't use content packs to distribute the report because they seemed to be the "old way" of doing things, and we were concerned that Microsoft might depreciate them in the future.

We've therefore created an "alerts dashboard" containing every metric for every regional office, to allow them to subscribe to alerts. There are 25 regional offices and 20 metrics, so 500 tiles on the dashboard, so this is a monolithically clunky and slow solution, which will be very difficult to maintain. There has to be a better way.

I'd be most grateful if anyone could recommend a more workable approach.

Hi @PetteHog,

Alerts can only be set on tiles pinned from report visuals, and only on gauges, KPIs and cards. So, the only way to create alerts is to generage dashboards currently.

"the regional offices are primarily only interested in the data that relates to their office, which they can filter in the report"

Maybe you could apply RLS (Row Level Security) on report data.
