Adding additional Tables/Data sets to existing report online

Hi,

We have a client who has created a report using powerbi service using excel tables as the data set. However they require more tables to be added in to report off. However, we cannot figure out how to tie up additional data sets to an exsiting report within service.

We dont really want to advise the client to re do the reports as significant time has been put into building the reports, and unfortunately we cannot export to pbix as they were created online rather than desktop.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

I believe you will have to create a new report based upon the way the original report was defined doesn't allow for other connections.

Hi ShaunBizSol ,

To achieve your requirement, please follow steps below:

1. Connect to PBI service in PBI desktop, click Get Data->Power BI service->Select report.

3.PNG

2. Connect to another data source in PBI desktop, edit your report then publish to service and replace the old report and dataset.

@v-yuta-msft Thanks for your suggestion. I can see we connect to the data set itself, however it doesnt show the reports. Only the data set. Once connected, I the "Get Data" is greyed out also. Any other suggestions?

Hi @ShaunBizSol,

You can setup template Power BI Reports that have the Datasets in this Reports. When you create a new Report you can connect to these already created Datasets and this might be a solution for your Reports.

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for the suggestion, although in this case I dont believe ticks our box.

Effectively we need to add an additional data set into an already exsisting report within powerBI online.

Thanks
