Add local Excel files when creating a report in the Service from a Power BI Dataset

If someone can't use Power BI Desktop and only the Power BI Service for creating reports, is it possible for someone to enrich a Power BI Dataset provided in the datasets hub with other (local and/or cloud) datasources?

Hi @mmossel

You can get data from local/cloud excel files and then create reports by these excel files in Service .

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/service-get-data

But modeling is limited in Service ,you cannot create measures of or calculated columns .You cannot configure RLS in Service and so on . So in order to better analyze and model the data to maximize the visualization of the data, my suggestion is to use Desktop to model the data, and then use the Service to achieve data sharing and team collaboration.

I found some docs about the differences between Desktop and Service , you can refer to them .
