I want to add measures or columns to my data model. I have been downloading the .pbix file and then adding columns or measures and publishing again. THis is time consuming as it downloads all of the data(>400mb) and will get worse as i have the data gateway uploading daily sales data into my dataset. I have tried connecting the desktop to the service and adding measures, but they only show up in the 1 report that i publish and aren't available for any other reports i have created or new reports.
Is there some way to add measures or columns to a dataset without needing to download all of the data?

Unfortunately at this time I am not aware of any other way of doing it. You really don't have access in the Service to edit the data model. That being said, it seems like the Power BI team is moving towards parity in functionality between Desktop and Service, witness Data Flows which essentially brings Power Query to the Service. So there's probably some hope.
