Access to reports/datasets

Hello all,

Have an issue where I am trying to setup a user with access to reporting through Excel connecting to the Service.

She is able to sign into the website/service and view/manipulate the report there.

When she tries to connect to the same dataset via Excel (Connect to Data), she can connect to the workspace and browse the reports/datasets but when she clicks Connect it says "The report does not exist or you don't have access".

The auditing in the service doesn't seem to address Excel connections, any idea what could be the issue or how else to troubleshoot?

We have other users accessing datasets the very same way without issue.

Thanks!

Seems to be the same problem we're having. Following the workaround lets us connect.

These steps may be too cumbersome for our end users to replicate each time they want to create a new template. I hope these issues are resolved in the future release.

Update:

Seems there was an update to Publisher for Excel. I downloaded it on our test machine and now it can't access the Service either through my credentials.....

Am having the same issues onsite here. I have both 32 and 64 bit office users. So far around 5 64bit users get the issue you describe. 3 out of 4 32 bit users don't have the issue. I agree it seems to be an authentication issue. What bit is your office version? All these users have taken the latest add-in update.

Both machines impacted with the latest update are:

Windows 10 x (64 bit)

Excel 2016 (32 bit, for SAP BEx compatability)

I have a ticket opened with Microsoft, but the holiday next week will likely delay resolution.

Update:

Uninstalled publisher and installed an older version I managed to find in downloads and she is now able to connect.

We'll see what Microsoft has to say.

Microsoft responded and said it's a known issue that they're working on. They advise using the older version of Publisher, which fortunately we have.

So much for keeping our software updated. Smiley Frustrated

Forgot to mention; she is able to pin to the workspace dashboard from Excel. So she's connected and can "upload" just can't "download".

Update:

Installed Power BI desktop and had her connect to the dataset via Get Data>Online Services>Power BI and she was able to access the dataset.

Seems to be some authentication issue with Excel and the Service.

There is a popup when she clicks Connect that quickly disappears and then another asks for her work or school ID. I'm thinking it may be some sort of stored cookie or token issue.
