programatically Modify power bi dataset connections on Post OCT 2020 release - Parameters required?

We need to modify all power bi sharepoint datasources to modify the url in the connection string.  I found this link describing how

• The method on that page is to create parameterized connections; which, I think would require manual modification of all existing reports.

Question:  If we are on post Oct 2020, are parameters the only way?  I attempted the Pre OCt 2020 method and have been unable to get it to work (explaination in this question)

As noted in the link you posted, the pre-Oct technique does not work for import mode reports. And if you are using Sharepoint as a source your reports must be in import mode so you are out of luck. I think your only option at the moment is to modify the report to either manually change the connection to either point to the new URL or to add parameters.
