Where is the export "Underlying data" option in Report Server?

We are using Power BI Desktop (October 2017) optimized for Report Server.  We recently migrated from PBI Service to PBI Report Server.

There appears to be a different set of "Export data" capabilities between Power BI Service (cloud) and Power BI Report Server (on-premises).  The option to select either "Summarized data" or "Underlying data" is not showing in Power BI Report Server as it does in Power BI Service.  This missing capability is now a problem for our reports users because when they select "Export data" it goes immediately to Save or Open.  If it is a simple table, the data they receive from the export is only that simple table and not the underlying detailed data.  Not useful.

Is the "Summarized data" / "Underlying data" capability missing from Report Server or is there some configuration setting we need to enable?  Thanks for any help!

Hi @Anonymous,

The options "Summarized data" and "Underlying data" for export data are not available in current release of Power BI Report Server. Power BI Report Servre and Power BI Service are two separate products. Power BI Report Server contains all the same functionality as SSRS, and has the included features to support Power BI Reports.

For your request, you could submit it at the ideas page, if it is mentioned by many users, product team will consider adding it to future release.

@v-yulgu-msft,

Thank you, Yuliana.  Acknowledged - this capability has not been implemented as of the October 2017 version of Power BI Report Server.

As a side note, you mention that Power BI Service and Power BI Report Server are different "products" and I understand what you mean, but to a user they are really more like different versions/platforms of the same product.  It would be a good idea for Microsoft to keep the capabilities/features as closely matched as possible between the two.  At a minimum, the differences should be well documented and available to users.  If you are aware of such documentation, please let me know!  As users, we are discovering these differences through trial and error -- which comes in the form of complaints and requests from our internal user base that we are supporting (i.e. I am an author of the .pbix data model). We "publish" the model and reports to a broad group of report users, some of whom are executive management.  Avoiding surprises such as this one is very important.

Thanks again for your previous prompt response!

Regards,

Ken

Can someone answer in detail as to what kind of export features are available on POWER BI REPORT SERVER and what are the limitations?
