Unable to upload PBIX file to PBI Report server

Hi everyone

 

I have problem with uploading PBIX file to report server May 2021.

I have a fresh installation of PBI Report Server and old one on with I have made upgrade Januarry 2020 to May 2021.

 

In both cases I'm not able to upload PBIX file.

I can upload RDL and Excel file with no problems, but not PBI.

I have created simple PBI file in May 2021 Desktop application.

 

Software version

 

PBI Reports Server

Version1.11.7815.26414(May 2021)

 

PBI Desktop

Version: 2.93.1681.0 64-bit (maj 2021)

 

Windows Serwer 2019

[Version 10.0.17763.2061]

 

The error I'm getting is

 

An error has occurred.

There was an error uploading your .pbix file. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file.

 

I have checked log files and I see HTTP 422 error

 

When I track web browser communication I also get error 422.

 

Please help to resolve this.

Unfortunatelly, not.

Are you using a standalone Power BI Report Server or is it a scale out deployment?

I'm using standalone version on one server.

We have been trying for a long time to get Power BI Server to work correctly. There are a lot of little hidden things that can make uploading not work. I do not know all the scenarios but it does seems that if something is not right in the install then other things go wrong. There is a section in the Reporting Services Configuration Manager for the URL that we removed and re-added the URL. For example if you have an alias name then you might change this section. We just deleted and re-added the URL and then uploading worked again. I do not know why that happened but it worked. We did something later that caused uploading to fail again. So we did a fresh install and uploading worked again. We use the same version. It is strange that you can upload Excel files and not Power BI. You have the same error we have experienced when doing a scale out deployment we had same error codes etc. I can honestly say I do not know what causes this issue and I would like to know as well. I only know a fresh install has helped. I am happy to share with you how we set up our standalone version. We are still not fully there yet either. Yet we have got the upload to work locally from the Power BI Report Server. Are you uploading locally or remote when you get the error, have you tried both. If they both do not work it is something to do with configuration. Did it work in January version?

Looks like you are not using a compatible PBI Desktop version.

Make sure that you are using Power BI Desktop Optimized for Power BI Report Server.  (May 2021)

Hi. I'm using correct version, I have download PBI desktop from server link, and it's exactly the same version that you are writing about. Look at my post, I have write exact server and desktop versions.
