Unable to create Report Schedule

Hi ,

Sub: Power BI Report Server – Unable to create Report Schedule / unable to refresh report

Content: we are creating power BI reports (.pbix) files using Power BI Desktop client. And then we saved / uploaded the same report into power BI server.

After uploading into server, we are trying to schedule that report to run daily night. But it is showing the below message.

"Scheduled Data Refresh is not available for reports. The report does not have any external data connections defined or is using an unsupported data source. Learn more"

Any idea? What is the reason for this above message? Any other workaround to make the report schedule?

Connection method: ODBC connection

Data source is: Vertica DB

Hi,

To refresh dataset in PowerBI server you required supporting "data source" then only you are able to schedule the refresh.

Steps to create "data source":

01. Download "Power BI Gateway".

02. Install it to your centralized server, which has access to your database server. It could be your database server as well.

03. Go to Power BI service right upper corner gear icon>> manage gateways.

04. Create data source as per your requirement.

05. Go to your dataset now and you will able to see this data gateway in your data set settings.

06. Select and click OK.

After above steps you will able to schedule your data refresh. Additionally, your user should have permission to that data source as well which you can give on manage gateway itself.

Thanks for your reply.

We are using Power BI Server, not Service. Below is our requirement.

1. How to create schedule refresh the power bi report (.pbix) in “Power BI Report Server”.

Note: The pbix file is developed using Power BI desktop client, Data Source is “Vertica DB”, Connection method is “Import” data using ODBC.

2. How to Export “graph visuals” into PowerPoint & “table visuals” into Excel file format, When we use Power BI Report Server web portal ?

3. When we save the (.pbix) file into “Power BI Report Server”, it is giving the below error message.

Can’t upload this report

We can't save this Power BI Desktop report because either it is newer version or has component parts that are not supported.

The report is developed using “Power BI Desktop Client” in “Direct Query” method and the data source is Vertica DB. Is it not supported?
