Hi all, hopefully someone can help with this.
My team recieved the following email regarding TLS 1.0 and 1.1. We only use Power BI report server on premise, will this still affect us? Sorry for the random question - don't really understand what TLS means and how it would affect my team and the ability to view reports created in Power BI
"we are moving all of our online services to Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.2+ to provide best-in-class encryption and to ensure our service is more secure by default. Consequently, we will be retiring Power BI support for Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol versions 1.1 and 1.0 beginning June 2020.
How does this affect me?
Your organization may use older versions of browsers and operating systems that only support TLS versions 1.1 and 1.0. Once Power BI no longer supports these older versions of TLS, those older browsers and operating systems will no longer be able to view Power BI content."
TLS is Transport Layer Security, it is what is used to encrypt information sent over an https:// connection. So, you almost certainly do not need to worry about this unless you are using some ancient browser to access Power BI.
Ah this is great, thank you! I was worried that all reports would suddenly stop working
Yes, this mainly affects Windows 7 if you were on that there were registry fixes and updates to the .Net Framework that were required. I believe support for TLS 1.2 is automatic in Win 10 (and possibly also Win8)
