Schedule refresh not updating the data in Browser - Jan 2021

I have Jan 2021 report server installed on a domain environment. I deployed a one page report (SQL import query) on the server and set scheduled refresh for every 5 minutes for test. Set up all necessary credentials under Basic Authentication. The refresh runs successfully every 5 minutes however the browser still showing old data and not updating automatically as it supposed to. Only when I reload the browser (F5), the latest data shows.

I really appreciate if some one can put me into the right direction to resolve this problem.

In Chrome console (on the server or on the end user), I have the below errors:

powerbiportal.dependencies.externals.bundle.js:5 POST http://pbiserver/powerbi/api/powerbi/refresh/subscribe 404 (Not Found)

DevTools failed to load SourceMap: Could not load content for http://pbiserver/Reports/assets/css/bootstrap.css.map: HTTP error: status code 404, net::ERR_HTTP_RESPONSE_CODE_FAILURE

Hi @ozge ,

One workaround:

How about setting auto browser refresh every 5 minutes in your scenario? Then you can get the latest data after scheduled refresh.

I have the same issue in the brower, i can clear the cache and force the update.

I also have a number of computer illiterate team members, if they have to do this each time it is a failure of the system. How can I automatically impliment this?

Half of them view the report via MS Teams too, how can I force an update in there?

Did this behavior work prior to Jan 2021 release?

I believe this has always been the refresh behavior in PBIRS that a browser refresh is required to load the newly created (after 5 minute refresh runs) model.

I read many forum entries regarding the browser refresh was not required. That's the reason I am asking. I used Oct 2020 instance on another environment and same refresh issue was there. Actually it becomes pointless to manually refresh the browser to get the new data where you need always the automated latest data on dashboards. I was hoping to get similar behaviour as it is in the desktop version.

Hi,
I have same issue (but with different reason why is it issue).

When Model is refreshing, in integrated SSAS is created new version of DB with model (side-by-side), and all users are using old version of model.
When refresh is finished, there no hard switch over, current users (which not reopened report) still uses old version of model, new users (which reopened report) are connected to new version of model. Both versions are kept in SSAS.
Current users use old model until reload of report in browser, it means until press F5, or until go back to RS portal, and reopen report. Additionally, refresh icon in PBI report UI (used for refresh direct query reports) is not working for this scenario (after press Refresh button, are data reloaded from old version of model!)

Old version of model is kept in SSAS until all users are disconnected from old version.

I understand why is not used hard switch over. But I think, there missing some configurable short timeout period, which forces switch user to latest version of model after some time.

It is issue also from another point of view, multiple version of model in SSAS, consume much more memory.

This issue is there at least from May 2020 Release. Prior this version I'm not sure, but I do not remember issues of this type.
