Rs:embeded doesn't work after September Release

Hi,

are you aware that rs:embeded stopped working after the september 2019 release ?

Is there a workaround?

Thanks @almazfm for identifying the root cause of this issue. I can reproduce this on my test server.

@flopi I have mention this to the people I know on the dev team and apparently this issue had already been identified and a fix will be included in a new build of the September release which they hope to release something in the next few days.

How are you using rs:Embed?

I just tried adding ?rs:Embed=true on the end of a report url and it stripped out the portal navigation elements just leaving the report as I would expect it to.

Hi,

thanks for your promt feedback.

I use it as you described and integrated some important reports into an internal application. Suddenly, after the upgrade, the links with ?rs:Embed=true  didn't forward me to the report, on the contrary, I'm being forwarded to the main page of PBRS.

Maybe you have tested on a fresh installation. Can you check the upgrade scenario ?

Thanks Bobi

Hi @flopi ,

In fact rs:embed=true works fine, the issue you're facing should be with the fact that the new release makes the report server name case sensitive. E.g. http://server/Reports and http:/server/reports aren't the same. please check your web page name and try to change the links accordingly.

P.S. I had the same issue

The instance I tested against was upgraded from the May 2019 release.

So are you saying if you remove the ?rs:embed=true the link works, but it only breaks when you add the embed parameter?

Hi @d_gosbell,

I had an embeded link in our internal system (e.g. https://myreport/reports/powerbi/myreport?rs:embed=true ). After the upgrade the link didn't work any more and I've been forwarded to the main page (e.g. https://myreport/reports). My virtual folder is defined as Reports.

I've checked the hint from @almazfm and tested it on my box (single PBRS installation). After changing the link to  https://myreport/Reports/powerbi/myreport?rs:embed=true it worked. Unfortunately, this workaround doesn't work on scale-out environment, since the virtual directory is a part of the load balance address i.e. https://myreport/reports must be change not only in PBRS but also in the load balance configuration. Moreover, every user has saved the link of the Report as a favorite link. If I would change the URL in all configurations, all personal favorites are invalid. For this scenario, I didn't find any technical workaround!

@d_gosbellWith the September update a breaking functionaliy has been released. Request you to address it to the developers and release a hotfix, because 99% of all PBRS-Installations are affected and need to be reconfigured

Thanks
Bobi

Hey @d_gosbell ,

I've successfully tested the version that has been released today.

Thanks to you and the envolved developers for fixing it. Keep up improving Power BI

P.S. I've read that Excel export was released, as promised it for the september release, but I wasn't able to check it. Good job.

Regards

Bobi
