Report server key query.

We are going to provide a Power BI reporting solution to 8 customers. Out of which 5 are ok with PBI service and 3 are wanting on premises reporting for data residency.

We will buy premium P1 capacity for our org. And share reports to guest users of 5 customer organizations for free.

Coming to the 3 customers wanting on premises reporting, can we use the same report server key for all 3 customers in their environment? Or do we have to buy 3 Premium P1 capacities for 3 different customers to get a separate report server key for them? That'd cost us a lot of money and the entire model will not work with regards to cost expenditure.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. With regards to getting the report server key with SQL Server enterprise edition with software assurance, Can you please guide us on How would we fare up with SQL server enterprise edition with software assurance. Is it possible to procure 3 SQL Servers Enterprise editions via our organization's licensing team from Microsoft and take them to our customers' environment or do we have to ask customer organization's licensing team to procure those from Microsoft?

I think you would need to have an Enterprise Agreement in place with Microsoft and would need to talk to your Microsoft Account Executive to see if this was possible. But I suspect that each client might need to have their own Enterprise Agreement in place.

But the pricing is pretty much the same, the SQL licensing option is just a different way of purchasing the license so this is not going to make any difference from a cost perspective

No, you cannot use the 1 key to install to 3 separate Report Server instances, you would need 3 additional capacities. But it depends on what your "data residency" requirements are. If they just need to be in the same country as your customers this *may* be possible as you specify which geographic region you want to run in when you purchase a premium capacity. But if your data residency requirement is stricter than that and they want all the data in their own data centers then you are out of luck and each client would need their own P1 license.
