Publish report from a local PBI Desktop to a remote PBI Report Server

Hello,

I have Power BI Report Server (August 2017 preview) installed on a server and I want to be able to publish my report from Power BI Desktop (August 2017 preview) installed on a local machine.

I can access the portal on the local machine and upload it there but when I try to upload it from Power BI Desktop I have this error message: Unexpected error encountered.

Couldn't find any error in the Power BI Desktop logs or the Power BI Report Server ones.

Are the local desktop machine and the report server on the same domain?  Last i looked at it (using wireshark packet traces), the PBI desktop automatically submits it's inherited credentials to the report server when asked to authenticate.  If the server can't authenticate your local logged-in user, it'll kick back that obtuse error

Hi @Yousra,

1. Does this issue happen to only this specific report or all reports?

2. Please try to restart the desktop and try again.

3. If issue persists, please run Fiddler follow this to capture traffic and share .saz file here

Thank you @v-qiuyu-msft and @Kraius.

I used Fiddler and it's an authentication problem: HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized

My local machine is not on the same domain of the report server.

Is there a workaround to this?  I am having the same issue and I can log in directly to the report server through the web browser, but because my computer is not a part of the domain, Power BI Desktop also gets a 401 Unauthorized response when I try to connect and brings up the "Server is not reachable" message.  I've verified this through Fiddler as well.
