Power Bi Reports Refresh Problem with May 2020 Updated Version

Hi,

We upgraded our Power BI Report Server last week to May 2020 update. We noticed that edited and saved reports not refresh at Power Bi Server but scheduled task refresh without any problem.

How can we solve this issue? maybe it is bug for May 2020 update is there any workarround about May 2020 update2 ?

This is a bug in the current release. The team is working on a fix, going through testing and should be released once validated. Later this week or early next week of no issues.

Bad news! :(((((

There is new version published (15.0.1103.232), but this version not solving this issue completely. This version solving refresh cache only in case of manual upload from PBID.

In case of scheduled refresh (in case when data refresh is processed on another server than frontend server in scale-out deployment) is still not solved. After data datarefresh data in SSAS cache are not retried on all servers and using cached out-of-date data.

This issue, after two weeks is still not resolved.

OK:

Power BI Report Server farm with minimum two app servers (not including server with MSSQL hosting ReportServer DB), on both is installed PBIRS May2020 15.0.1103.227 or 232, servers are joined to scale-out deployment, first server is used as web front-end (users are connecting thru DNS alias to this server via browser) and this server is not used for processing datarefreshs ( <IsDataModelRefreshService>False</IsDataModelRefreshService> in rsreportserver.config). Second server is configured for background data refresh processing (<IsDataModelRefreshService>True</IsDataModelRefreshService> in rsreportserver.config). In report server catalog exist least one report with Import mode data (not directquery or Live Connected) and scheduled datarefresh.

Repro Steps:

1) Open any report (with import mode data) via browser (on first server is logged actions in order ASModelStream, ConceptualSchema and QueryData) - it's is OK
2) Wait for scheduled datarefresh or run "Refresh Now" from scheduled refresh setting of this report, and check if finished. Second sever will refresh data in model and store in DB (second server logs ASModelStream, DataRefresh and SaveToCatalog)  - it's is OK

3) Reopen this report via browser. Time between step 1) and 3) must be shorter then Model Expiration, by default 60minutes. Report show same data as in step 1), not affected by refresh. (first servers logs only ConceptualSchema and QueryData - there is missing first action "ASModelStream" which reloading data from DB to SSAS cache if is refreshed)

It's mean, Query from cache at 12:05:xx is from same cache as is at 12:03:xx. Datarefresh at 12:04:xx not update cache on any server, and cache NEVER expire with out-of-date data. Only possible way how force refresh cache is restart server.
