Power BI report server October 2020 - hanging issue & 401 (Unauthorized) error

Hello,

I need help in understating the cause of the following issue:

While using a Power BI report deployed on Power BI report server the report goes into a hanging state (I just get a loading message on the web page) when refreshed and few times the charts used in the report after refreshing the report through F5 gave me an unexpected error message.

* Please note:  that the report has a tabular model in direct query mode as a source and this model was connected to an oracle database using oracle oledb conector.

While tracing the issue I saw the following errors in chrome consoul:

> GET http://10.105.4.27:88/Reports/assets/img/fi/pbirs/manifest.json 401 (Unauthorized)
* Manifest: Line: 1, column : 1, Syntax error.

and at the same time thiss error was loged in RSPowerBI_2020_11_10_09_39_33 logfile:

Hi, @AsilAllaham ,

Did you have this error before your report server upgraded to PBIRS (Oct-2020) version?

Hi @DavisBI ,

Yes, in August 2020 I was tasked to build a report on the server on which the issue appeared on. And it had PBIRS Oct-2017 version, so to use the latest version back then I upgraded it to the August-2020 version, I only had one user the admin user, and the report building and deploying process back then worked smoothly.

Moving forward on 09-11-2020 I added a local user that had access to the report, then on 10-11-2020 the issue appeared and I thought that it may be a bug in the Aug-2020 version so I upgrade it to (Oct-2020) and the issue did not go away.

I appreciate your help.

Regards,

Hi @AsilAllaham ,

What's your verification method? Custom authentication? How about swtiching back to windows authentication? Maybe this is the cause.

In addition, is this the case for all reports?

Best regards

Icey

Hi Icey,

I used windows authentication {as the user viewing the report} and to answer your second question the server only continued the report which I created and honestly, I did not create any other report to test upon.

Best Regards,
