Power BI license cost

Hello,

I am planning to covert all my SSRS reports to PowerBi, when I looked for the cost I saw the PowerBI (pro) version cost me $10 per license. Does this license apply only for my development / deployment purpose or should I buy additional license for my Business users (for each business users) who will be accessing/generating the reports. Can someone please clarify it.

Thanks

@jrajaram - You can use Pro for developing and publishing reports. If you do not have about 500 report consumers (roughly) then you probably do not want Premium. Premium starts at about $5,000 per month versus Pro at $10/month

Hi,

If you mean the licensing on the Report server you need the Enterprise edition of the SQL Server and also Software Assurance. And for every developer who can publish one Pro licence. But you can also use Premium here If you have multiple server on a cluster.

Best,

Kathrin

@jrajaram - If you plan on sharing reports via the Power BI Service, then you need the Pro license for all users (both developers and readers). The exception to this is if you use Power BI Premium, then you only need a Pro license for the developers.

Hi Greg,

First of all, thank you for all the help. Your tips have been quite useful!

I've a couple of last queries. I need to develop some reports, publish them and set them t update themselves automatically once a month. Can I do that with a pro licence for me and for each of the business persons?

If the answer is yes. How can I make the automation process and where should I put the data for that?

Thank you once more!

Are there any plans for a read only license cost that's cheaper than a developer license?

10/month for read only isn't really feasible for small business of say 200 staff.   The publish to web also isn't useful for internal content.

Yes end use can open the PBIX and look, but that's pretty clunky.  I'm sure this gets asked a lot, but I'd think that an option to publish content that's not open to the world but doesn't require a 10 fee would in some way increase the use of PBI.
