PBI Report Server Oct 2020 , Excel dataconnection refresh

Hello the community,

I would like to share with you an issue we're facing since the upgrade we've made with PowerBI reportServer. So we upgraded to Oct 2020 and since then we have this issue of refreshing data especially with data sources like Excel...

We have a report that uses a shared excel file as data source, the credentials are correct, and the refresh schedule in this case can be executed but it shows always this message. Could anyone help please ?

  ** file is accesible

** credentias are correct, user can access the file

Thank you

Hi Janey Guo, thanks for your response, actually I tested this solution but I didn't help.

This issue was fixed with the version Jan 2021

Hi, @Anonymous

Has the problem been solved? There may be some bugs when the new version is released, I believe they have been fixed now.

If it doesn’t solve your problem, please feel free to ask me.

Hi, @Anonymous

You can try the workaround:

  1. Before the PBIX file is upgraded to the new format in the October 2020 version of PBI Desktop (Optimized for PBIRS), a backup copy is saved in the AppData folder: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop SSRS\TempSaves\Backups
  2. Open PBI Desktop and turn off the Enhanced Metadata option. Go to File -> Options and settings -> Options -> Global-Preview features -> then uncheck the option:10.png
  3. Restart Power BI Desktop
  4. Reopen the backup PBIX file
  5. You should be able to use this version of the report and publish it to the PBIRS server. It is the v1 model and the same format as in May 2020 PBIRS.

If it doesn’t solve your problem, please feel free to ask me.

Best Regards

Janey Guo
