Not able to save report to Power BI on-premises server

TL DR;

Not able to publish report from "Microsoft Power BI report server" to "Microsoft Reporting Server/Portal" only when I try to publish from another PC In the domain.

Hello Community,

Hope everyone is doing great!

I have a quick question which I have been debugging with the help of Power BI community blogs.

Architecture:

1st VM - For managing Domain Name Server and users (OS - Windows Server 2019). Let's call it 'Domain Server'.

2nd VM - Installed SSRS and PBIRS (OS - Windows 10). Let's call it 'Windows 10' VM.

3rd VM - Client machine for installing Power BI report Builder. Let's call this machine 'Client' VM.

I am able to publish (save as -> power bi report server) from my Windows 10 VM but not from client VM. Community, can you please guide us in right direction.

Thanks

I have been able to do it. No blogs, or videos have told about this. So, I explored and found that I was missing out on giving important permissions.

Steps to give permission:

  1. Open Power BI report portal URL
  2. Click on "Manage folder option"

  3. Type the name of the user and give the permission to publish (for testing give all of the permissions)
  4. Login into client machine with credentials of that user at the time of publishing and open Power BI (RD version)
  5. Create a demo file and click on "save as" -> power bi report server -> enter IP address and click on save.

Hi @iamironman11111 ,

Are the local desktop machine and the report server on the same domain?

The PBI desktop automatically submits it's inherited credentials to the report server when asked to authenticate.  If the server can't authenticate your local logged-in user, it'll kick back that error.

Best Regards,

yes they are on same domain
