Manage > Data Sources grayed out

Hi, we've been trying to upload a PowerBI report to the report server using a DirectQuery connection however we've been getting an error when publishing it through the application:

On the report server, the report is there but it doesn't load any data on the screen. I viewed a previous thread and the solution says to click on Manage then Data Sources to store the credentials on the report server however when we try to access that it's grayed out:

Any assistance on this would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Hi @Craig5,

  • What is your PBI Report Server and PBI desktop version? To enable DirectQuery connection, you should use the October release and use the matched desktop version. Besides, what is the data source type in .pbix file?
  • Do you get this error with all reports or just a particular one?
  • If you Save the report to disk using Save As and then try to upload it on the Web Portal does it work?
  • Also, please check the RSPortalXXX and RSPowerBIXXX logs in the installation LogFiles folder and let me know if you see any errors?
  • Do you install both SSRS and PBI report server on the same machine? If so, please check whether you configured the same server URL reservations for them. You need to make sure they both point to differant catalog databases and their URL reservations for both Web Service and Web Portal are differant.
