Issue with Dynamic M Query Parameters Binding using Power BI Desktop RS version and DirectQuery Mode

Hi,

We are  using Power BI Desktop Report Server May'2022 version.

When we try to implement Dynamic M Qyery Parameters with DirectQuery mode, we are getting error like below.

Parameter Binding option is not available for Power BI Desktop RS version (Either in May'2021 and also inMay'2022)

Could you pease help us resolve this issue.

Hello microsoft
I am a bit disappointed by the different "Power Bi Desktop Versions"
What the heck is the distinction between "Power Bi Desktop" and "Power Bi Desktop RS" regarding the topic "Dynamic M Query Parameters Binding using Power BI Desktop"

I tried the following example from the video (see link) with different versions of "Power Bi Desktop":
Dynamic M query parameters in Power BI Desktop

With version: 2.112.1161.0 64-bit (December 2022) it works with a small mark, see the screenshot.

Still, the ColorOpt table is rendered as a DirectQuery, but in the Query Editor, the hint is to say something else.

A little confusing! Or ?

With the version: 2.105.1143.0 64-bit (May 2022) the same example was recreated unfortunately without success.

We work with the Report Server and the dashboards should be uploaded to it.
When will the desktop versions finally be identical?
I look forward to a quick reply. With a solution, of course. 🙂

Hi, Thakk you for your reply. I have verified this. But this is only applicable for Power BI Desktop Service version but not Power BI Desktop RS version.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Have you ever tried set up manually step-by-step with example shown in the blog post.

Just add a datasource with DirectQuery (instead of Import) and then Bind to Parameter option will show up.

You can refer to the following article.

Bind to Parameter Not Showing
