Hello,
our user built two reports with regular PBI desktop version and shared it on cloud. (PBI PRO)
Now i was asked to publish this report to our on-premise PBI report server, but as you know the version is not compatible.
Microsoft has two PBI desktop version..
one is the regular one
another one is optimized for PBI Report server and it released every 3 months
Does any one know if here is a easy way to do this conversion. Or i have to build it from scratch with the desktop version that ptimized for PBI Report server
Still don't understand why Microsoft have this two version since they all Power BI Desktop and they are not compatible
Thanks
QMJ
Hi, @besthyde ,
Both the RS version PBID and the regular PBID have a version number. The lower version of .pbix file can be opened in the higher version of PBID, but the higher version of .pbix file can not be opened in the lower version of PBID. PBID can only be downward compatible, not upward compatible.

Hi @besthyde ,
the problem is that the Power BI Desktop for cloud had other features than the Report Server...for example the meta data feature...this dosn't exist in the Report Server Version.
I would love to tell you there is an easy way but it is a little bit of work to do, I recently created a Click Tip for thoose situations - hope this will help you:

it's only a work around but better than nothing :).

Kathrin
