Hi,
We are using Power BI Rpeort Server (May 2019)
We have connected it to SSAS using Connect Live Option as a datasource (SSAS Tabular)
Just wanted to know whether below requirement is possible
Can a Power BI user use the SSAS DataModel and also his own excel sheet as a datasource and create a report
using columns of both SSAS and excel in one report (Data Mashup)
eg : Actual Data from SSAS and Budget Data from Excel Sheet
Is it possible in Power BI?
Can anyone please suggest?
Solved! Go to Solution.
No, this is not currently possible. The only way to mashup Excel and SSAS Tabular content is to import the data from SSAS Tabular, but this is not a great solution either as Tabular can sometimes struggle when exporting large volumes of detail level data.
From a performance perspective a better option might be to give access to the same tables/views that the Tabular model sources data from. But I know that sometimes this is not possible or desireable depending on security, privacy or other issues.

HI,
Thanks !!
So now I understand that mashing up Excel Data with SSAS Tabular (Connect Live) option is Not Possible
ALso.
mashing up Excel Data with SSAS (Import) option is Not Possible due to performance implications
So , if we use data source as SQL Server 2016 and Excel - Can we mashup data for these two.
Is it technically possible?
If yes, then cud u pls share any links for the same .
Thanks
It's possible. 🙂
You cain use Import option and import data from SQL Server 2016 then add other source from excel file.
