Export of Table to Excel yields different 'sum' in Excel

Have encountered a scenario where the export ("Data with Current Layout") to Excel file mirrors what is visible in the Power BI service online.

However, if a 'sum' is done on the column, the value calculated within Excel does not match what is in the Power BI visual.

Row limit not exceeded.

Hi @ryanwright

I agree with what @d_gosbell. But this problem generally doesn't occur. Can you tell us about your specific situation and what visual and measure you used? so that we can analyze it.

There are many considerations and limitations to refer to:

There are a number of possibly explanations for this.

One possibly reason is that the column you are looking at is doing a more complex calculation than a simple sum. If it is a measure that is doing a distinct count or a percentage the total will most likely be different to a sum of the values in the rows.

Another possible explanation is that this could be a rounding issue. If you had 2 rows with values of 1.5 and 2.5 but had set the display to not show any decimal places these would round up to 2 and 3, but the grand total would be shown as 4, not 5 since it would be based on the raw data.
