I am new to Power BI ETL but not ETL.
I was given an excel spreadsheet that has cells are filled out manually.
As you can see Column A is not filled out for every row and is related to the data by visual association or by being the previous known value in column A.
How does this data get loaded?
Column A Column B Column C
row 1 buildHouse
2 plumbing 20%
3 framing 50%
4
5 buildShed
6 plumbing 100%
7 framing 30%
You can directly import the Excel file to Power BI Desktop, then fill down the column A in Power BI Desktop query editor. If the method doesn't help you, please post expected result based on above sample data here.
Regards,
Lydia
That would mean manually entering data, right?
@forresto,
What result would you like to get? It doesn't need to manually enter the whole data. You can import data from Excel to Power BI and click fill down.

Lydia
Hi Lynda,
What you described = manual.
Hitting the click fill down = manual.
@forresto,
I haven't found any methods that can be used to automatically upload excel file to Power BI Desktop and replace the null values without any manual intervention.
Also, the fill down feature is more convenient than that you right click each row and replace it with former value.

Lydia
