would you know how to extract Jan07 from this "rt Published 01.Jan07.xls" using powerquery.

You can use the Extract Text Between Delemiters functionality and choose "Scan from the end of the input" in the advanced options and skip one delimiter:

Can you provide more detailed data and information? At present, I'm not sure whether Jan07 refers to a sheet or a column in Excel, and where do you want to extract it?
