Use PowerBI dataset as starting point for ETL

I am able to push data into a PowerBI dataset using the PowerBI API.  However, this data is in a relatively raw form.  I'd like to use this data as the starting point for a new dataset or dataflow so that I can leverage the power of PowerQuery to get my final tables (rather than transforming the data prior to pushing it into the PowerBI dataset).  Is this possible?

yes, it is possible - you can run DAX or MDX queries against a Power BI dataset that you connect to via the Analysis Services connector - but it has a really bad smell to it.  Power BI is a downstream system, not a data source. You should explore other options first.
