Problems connecting to SSAS through On Premises Gateway

Hi,

I'm having problems connecting to SSAS from the app.powerbi.com via On Premises Gateway

Scenario:

  • SSAS tablar is installed & On premises gateway are installed on the same machine. They will be on different machines later but we want to assure that there are no closed port issues between both servers for testing.
  • The gateway works for passing through SQL Server queries.
  • The SSAS database can be connectod to via the gateway management on app.powerbi.com.
  • The SSAS database can be loaded into Power BI Desktop (and published - but then it breaks).
  • The Data source can be found on app.powerbi.com -> create report -> get data -> sql server analysis services; but when we try to connect 'something went wrong'.

Error Message:

What could be the issue?

@Anonymous,

Do you use domain account to install the gateway and also use domain account to connect to SSAS? What account do you use to run SSAS service? Please make sure that you use same domain account rather than local machine account to run SSAS service and connect to SSAS database when adding data source within gateway.

Regards,
Lydia

@Anonymous,

In your scenario, please make sure that the email address you use to sign in Power BI Service matches a defined UPN within local Active Directory Domain. Also please post gateway log which is located at C:\Users\PBIEgwService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\on-premises data gateway\Gateway*.log .

There is also an article about troubleshooting data source error for your reference.

I'm using a laptop for testing some reports for Power BI, and I only use local machine users on that PC.

Is it possible to configure Gateway and Power BI to use a local user to connect to SSAS through Power BI Service and Data Gateway, or the only way is to use a domain user?

Thanks!
